PROJECT BACKGROUND
PJH Constructions approached us to provide structural engineering design for Wingspan, a brand-new luxury waterfront residence located in Mermaid Waters.
Designed by Jason Pate and built by PJH Constructions, Wingspan is a bold, double-storey residence with a wide water frontage. The home was designed to take full advantage of its north-west aspect, Broadbeach skyline outlook, hinterland views and direct connection to the water.
The design intent was to create a home that felt both highly resolved and effortless- a luxurious waterfront retreat that maximised natural light, water views, entertaining space and modern family functionality.
OUR BRIEF
Our brief included geotechnical services, structural engineering design, engineering documentation and site inspections throughout the construction period.
The structural design included footings and slabs, suspended floor framing, blockwork, timber and roof framing, steel beams, bracing, tie-downs, retaining elements and structural support for the pool, alfresco and waterfront living areas.
It was essential to liaise closely with PJH Constructions to ensure the structure supported the architectural intent without compromising the home’s clean lines, open spaces, premium finishes or waterfront outlook.
THE CHALLENGE
Wingspan required careful structural coordination due to its scale, waterfront location and high-end architectural detailing.
The home’s design incorporated large open-plan spaces, soaring ceilings, expansive glazing, multiple outdoor entertaining areas and a strong connection between the internal living zones and the water. These features required considered engineering solutions to maintain the architectural vision while ensuring the structure remained efficient, practical and buildable.
The waterfront site also required consideration of exposure, pool integration, external areas and retaining requirements.
Close collaboration with the builder and project team helped resolve structural details early and maintain coordination during construction.
THE OUTCOME
The result is a striking luxury residence that sets a high benchmark for waterfront living in Mermaid Waters.
Wingspan successfully balances scale, elegance and liveability. The home feels generous and open while remaining highly functional for everyday family life, with multiple living areas, private bedroom suites, a dedicated office, gym, wine cellar and seamless indoor-outdoor entertaining.
Our structural engineering supported the delivery of a refined, architecturally ambitious home while helping PJH Constructions maintain buildability and coordination throughout the project.
